About
KidStrong is a kids training program that includes science-based fitness games, obstacle courses, tug of war, tire flips, puzzles, games, and other mental challenges. Classes also include a social greeting where kids practice introducing themselves by shaking hands, making eye contact, and saying their name. Each class starts and ends with the KidStrong affirmation: “I am strong, I am brave, I can do this!”
• Ages: 1–11 years old
• Schedule: Membership includes one 45-minute class per week; each week, kids join for 45-minute classes. Note: Parents join class on the floor with kids under 4 years old.
KidStrong is a kids training program that builds strong, confident and high-character kids and is based on the Whole Child Philosophy, focusing on Strong Character, Strong Body, and Strong Mind. The curriculum focuses on three pillars—Character, Physical, and Cognitive—and uses science-based fitness games that develop kids’ emotional, physical, and mental skills. Classes are age-appropriate 45-minute sessions that are described as developmentally appropriate, challenging, and fun, and are reserved for KidStrong members only and require an appointment.
Programming is guided by a group of experts, child development scientists, and coaches, and is described as science-based programming designed by child development experts. All coaches are certified and professional, and KidStrong describes its coaches as specially trained, compassionate leaders who create a safe, supportive environment. The program is parent-focused, with clean, modern centers and connected families who have front row seats to celebrate kids’ achievements.
Each class follows specific blocks: a Foundations block that combines warm-ups with skill development, a Milestone block that works through complex skills to stimulate brain function and enhance cognitive development, a Move & Learn block that blends physical activity with cognitive or character development, a Performance block that develops skill mastery through repeated training and testing, and a Competition block where kids learn to compete and develop grit through games like tug of war or tire flips. Classes end with an award ceremony recognizing kids’ and parents’ efforts, and the program is focused on progression where kids rank up, unlock new responsibilities, and celebrate progress. KidStrong also offers Camps and KidStrong Camp, and some centers run KidStrong Academy.
KidStrong was founded in 2015 by Matt and Megin Sharp in Lexington, Kentucky. Megin and Matt partnered with Lincoln Brown to turn the idea into a scalable business, and KidStrong celebrated its 100th center opening with franchisee Barb Volk in Plantation, Florida. There are now more than 160 locations serving more than 65,000 kids per week, and KidStrong notes ©2015–2026 by KidStrong.
The leadership and expert team includes Matt and Megin Sharp (Founders), Morgan Johnson (Sr. Manager, Training & Certification), Ramon Williams (Senior Programming Specialist), Randy Nguyen (Programming Specialist), Patti Eubanks (Preschool & Kindergarten Director), Patrick Ford (Doctor of Physical Therapy), and Dr. Julie Foucher (MD, Family Physician, 4x CrossFit Games Competitor). KidStrong states that it does not provide medical services, does not accept insurance, and cannot guarantee that a child will learn how to fly. Based on a parent survey conducted in September 2023, 96% of parents reported seeing an increase in self-confidence, 88% noticed an improvement in social skills, and 85% said KidStrong is more enjoyable than other programs.
Parent testimonials describe individual experiences with KidStrong. One parent from KidStrong Crestview Hills reports that the program taught their child how to participate, listen, be a good teammate, and practice patience. Another parent from KidStrong Mandeville states that their daughter has been more brave doing things that others her age might be scared to do. A parent from KidStrong Prosper shares that their child started at 16 months old and, four months in, was having a lot of fun in activities and learning how to take instruction from coaches and be in a group setting. Other parents from locations including Waldwick (NJ), Prairieville (LA), Rocklin (CA), Noblesville (IN), and San Antonio (TX) describe their children coming out of their shells, changes in shyness, and increased effort in learning tasks such as words, cooking, and cleaning.
