Chicanos Por La Causa (CPLC), which runs these Youth Enrichment Programs, formed in 1969. Its mission statement is, “We believe in human dignity. Everyone deserves the power to live a meaningful life.” The CPLC Community Center is home to a nationally recognized Food Justice initiative, honored by No Kid Hungry through its From Fear to Trust grant for its impact in vulnerable communities. This Food Justice initiative breaks down barriers to food access by offering culturally relevant, nutrient-dense foods, hands-on nutrition workshops, and expanded SNAP outreach and education, and is described as being grounded in dignity and empowerment and a vital resource for families facing food insecurity and rising grocery costs.

The programs are part of broader community involvement that includes a partnership with Grant Park and the Youth Barrio Project and a sister program in Tucson called The Nahui Ollin Wellness Program, which uses the premise of “La Cultura Cura” or “The Culture Heals.” Chicanos Por La Causa also provides vulnerable communities with emergency hardship services and referrals. One participant shared, “The CPLC Community Center inspired me to go to college.”
