About

Musicology offers classes where children explore musical instruments, creative movement, dancing, and singing. The program includes exposure to beats and rhythms from different eras and various parts of the world. Classes are divided into specific developmental age groups which promote language, rhythm, motor skills, self-esteem, creativity and joy, and are specially designed for newborns through 4 years old.

• Ages: newborns–4 years old

Musicology is committed to giving babies and young children the best start in life through music and learning. Its innovative developmental music curriculum is guided by research from Dr. Jill Stamm’s best-selling books, Bright from the Start and Boosting Brain Power. The program operates at Musicology Arcadia, Musicology Chandler, and Musicology Scottsdale.

Musicology’s leadership team includes Mary Goodman, Owner; Missy Powers, Owner; and Dr. Jill Stamm, Ph.D. Mary Goodman has created and taught developmental music programs for babies and young children for over twenty years and conducts training seminars about music and learning to early childhood educators and caregivers. Missy Powers owned and operated two early childhood learning centers from 1994–2004 with over 30,000 children participating, has been a lecturer for New Directions Institute for Infant Brain Development, and gives seminars on how the brain wires up for learning from newborns to age three. Dr. Jill Stamm is the co-founder of New Directions Institute for Infant Brain Development, a professor at Arizona State University, an author, and an international speaker on early brain development and the connection of healthy brain growth to later learning and school achievement; she is a member of the National Advisory Panel of the Learning & The Brain Conference series and is also on Musicology’s Advisory Board.

Musicology is proud to be affiliated with Arizona Children’s Association (AZCA) and the founder of New Directions Institute for Infant Brain Development, Dr. Jill Stamm. Musicology is honored to be the recipient of grants that enable them to make a difference in the lives of children and is written into grants through multiple school districts, including Paradise Valley, Peoria, Glendale, Deer Valley, Chandler, Creighton and Washington. Musicology’s partnership with Arizona Children’s Association, as well as collaborations with First Things First, Thrive To Five, AZCEND Gilbert, Chandler Care Center, local hospitals, parenting groups and various non-profits, gives them the opportunity to bring music and brain development out to families in their community.

One parent, Jill Landis Leshin, a reading specialist and early childhood educator, states that Musicology is fun and engaging for children and a way to lay the foundation for future learning, noting that when children learn rhythm and steady beat through music it primes the brain for hearing the rhythm in books and language and prepares the brain for reading and writing. Another parent, Kelly Landin, shares that she started bringing her daughter when she was six months old and continued classes for the past year, describing it as a wonderful experience that has been great for her daughter’s language development, social skills, and overall fun, and notes that all the teachers are amazing and the owners are organized and accommodating.
