The H.E.A.R.T. Center offers equine assisted activities, therapeutic riding, equine-assisted learning, adaptive recreation, and recreational therapy. The program also includes recreation and activity integrated educational programs at an equine-based private school and blends homeschooling with traditional school, with equine-assisted learning and recreation infused into traditional academics.
The H.E.A.R.T. Center was founded in 2014. Its mission is to use horses and recreation to make school and therapy more relevant and more fun for students with additional needs, and to create alternative and intentional therapeutic learning opportunities for students with developmental disabilities. The program focuses on developing and nurturing physical, social, cognitive, and emotional function and well-being through individual therapeutic programs that supplement each student’s learning path, using an approach they describe as “Education Through Recreation.” The H.E.A.R.T. Center is a registered 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation. The leadership team includes Founder and Executive Director Chelsea Harden, CTRS, along with staff members known as Miss Carrie, Miss Kennedy, and Mr Matt. Staff credentials include a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist and a Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship, International (PATH, Int’l) Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor.
