ActivStars Athletics Karate is a company-owned, company-operated organization and is described as the largest kid-first martial arts school in the country with over 10,000 students. The program is the leading US provider of youth karate for families with children 4–17 years of age and has trained over 30,000 students, with classes taught in more than 5 states. ActivStars Athletics holds tournaments throughout the year, including the Tucson Dragon Classic Karate Tournament and the Valley of the Sun Karate Tournament, which is open to beginners through black belt, and it offers an invitational Brown and Black Belt Spring 2026 testing event for pretested students.
The mission of ActivStars Athletics Karate is to provide a fun and affordable after school karate program with instructors who are experts in martial arts and who focus on activities that develop mind, body, and life skills, partnering with schools and the community to create a space where people feel a sense of belonging and learn how to make their families and community a safer and better place. Its vision is to help every kid and family become black belts in life, and the program states that it provides positive programs which build skills, friendship, family values, and character for life.
Over 100 instructors are certified in SafeShield training and kid-focused learning, and instructors are described as some of the most highly skilled and decorated in the industry. All instructors are hired locally within the community, are screened and fingerprinted as part of an extensive background and reference check process, and attend training sessions to learn safety procedures and programs, current sports rules and regulations, innovative teaching techniques, and curriculum development. The karate school is trusted by school districts, churches, and the community to hold after-school classes in their buildings, and ActivStars Athletics is the only company-owned youth karate provider to partner directly with schools to deliver affordable after-school programs.
The leadership team is headed by Director Kraig Hollingworth, who started over 40 years ago with a passion to become the best karate student, joined ActivStars Athletics (then Young Olympians) in 1991, and graduated in 1994; Young Olympians was founded 7 years before 1991. ActivStars Athletics has over 30 years of experience, and Kraig’s wife Cherokee and his two daughters are current and past students. The program notes that its prices have led the industry for over 30 years, that there are no contracts, and that families can sign up anytime during the first three weeks and pay class to class. New students and families receive a 10% discount toward their first merchandise purchase using promo code Kick10.
