Christian Youth Theater (CYT) was founded in 1980, and CYT Tucson was founded in 2005 and is celebrating its 20th season in 2024–2025. CYT Tucson has produced fifty-eight shows over the past twenty seasons, and CYT has branches in 15 states. Instructors are professionals qualified in teaching and/or performing who understand the organization’s mission statement, values, objectives, and goals. The mission of Christian Youth Theater is to develop character and creativity through quality theater arts training that brings families and communities together while reflecting Jesus. CYT has grown to be the largest youth theater program in the nation and the largest children’s theater organization of its kind with branches in 15 states, with branches across the country training thousands of students a year. Each Branch’s yearly calendar includes three ten-week sessions that culminate in a high-energy showcase, and CYT shows are always appropriate for the entire family. Some Branches host overnight camps for older students, and CYT teen camps are particularly focused on spiritual growth. Christian Youth Theater brings families and communities together, and the purpose of the original community theater was to provide a vehicle for talented aspiring performers in San Diego’s local churches.

CYT states a commitment to the highest ethical, moral, technical, and artistic standards of excellence. In 2021 an independent board of directors was vetted and voted on by the leadership of all CYT Branches to assume responsibility for the organization’s governance. CYT is committed to maintaining a community where all participants can work and learn together free of harassment, misconduct, or abuse of any kind, including verbal, emotional, physical, and sexual. The Safety Scene program goes well beyond background checks in its work to prevent, detect, and respond to physical, emotional, verbal, and sexual abuse in CYT programming, and The Safety Scene is currently active and available to all CYT branches across the country.
