WSIP Writing Specialists are professional teachers, tutors, and editors. WSIP has provided writing support services for academic and non-academic writers for over forty years. The mission of the University of Arizona’s Writing Skills Improvement Program is to support writers and teachers of all genres and in all disciplines in improving their academic, professional, and personal writing and teaching skills by providing superior training, mentoring, and guidance to University of Arizona students, faculty, and staff; providing superior support and training for middle and high school students to improve their writing and critical thinking skills; providing superior training and mentoring for teachers to further their professional development; and building general confidence and overall writing competence in writers and teachers of writing while honoring their linguistic, cultural, and socio-economic backgrounds. As WSIP nears its fifth decade of service to the University of Arizona, Tucson, and the wider local and global communities, it adheres to the four pillars of The University of Arizona’s Never Settle philosophy—engaging, innovating, partnering, and synergy—to support diversity in all its forms and provide students with skills in analytical thinking, critical thinking, improved writing abilities, transcultural communication, and global awareness. The program is part of the College of Humanities at the University of Arizona and promotes the motto “Rapport, Respect, Relationship,” with expert writing specialists supporting academic writers around the world.

“WISP has been one of the most valuable aspects of my graduate studies. Their team is friendly, helpful, and extremely skilled at tutoring your writing assignments no matter what form your topic or reporting structure requires. After many years in the professional sphere, WISP helped build my confidence as a returning student -- without their help, I seriously may have left higher education.” - Rebecca Thompson, PhD, Applied Intercultural Arts Research, University of Arizona
