About
Farm Sanctuary Los Angeles Sanctuary Tours and School Group Visits offers guided sanctuary tours, private tours, and school group tours. During visits, participants visit with the sanctuary residents in their home, listen to their stories, learn about the realities of modern food systems, and may visit the Sanctuary Shop before or after a public tour.
• Ages: 12–18 years old
• Schedule: Guided tours are offered year-round, with public tours on Saturdays and Sundays and a limited number of private tours available on select Fridays; visits are approximately an hour long.
• Price: Admission charges are waived for middle school and high school children visiting as part of a school group tour.
Farm Sanctuary was founded in 1986. The sanctuaries are home to approximately 100 rescued farm animals, including cows, pigs, chickens, turkeys, and other farm animals, and each rescued animal has a special story. Animals who began their lives abused and neglected now spend their days digging in the dirt, basking in the sun, and napping in the straw, and each animal is given the freedom and attention needed not only to recover but to thrive. Farm Sanctuary’s mission is to fight the disastrous effects of animal agriculture on animals, the environment, social justice, and public health through rescue, education, and advocacy.
School group tours are limited to ages 12 and older, and admission charges are waived for middle school and high school children visiting as part of a school group tour. Farm Sanctuary does not discriminate against sanctuary visitors on the basis of a person’s disability and will work to provide reasonable accommodations. Manual wheelchairs are permitted in certain enclosures, but Farm Sanctuary cannot bring wheelchairs or walkers in with the cattle or pigs, and power wheelchairs cannot be brought into any animal area. The road through the shelter area is used by farm equipment and is largely composed of compacted dirt and gravel, short segments of the tour path have a steep grade, and the tour path includes a hardened surface with connections to animal enclosures that may include grassy areas and uneven terrain. There is limited shade and seating areas while on the tour. Guests are asked to plan to arrive 15 minutes ahead of their tour, and guests who arrive late may be asked to reschedule. The Sanctuary Shop is open for 30 minutes before and after each public tour.
A visitor review from Ela on Facebook describes Farm Sanctuary as “An amazing, must-see place,” and notes that her 19-month-old “loved being able to interact with all the animals” and that they “learned so much.”
