Alpine Jiu-Jitsu Academy offers Jiu-Jitsu and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes, including self-defense training. The program includes Jiu-Jitsu programs for the whole family and offers classes for kids, teens, and adults starting at age 5. Alpine Jiu-Jitsu Academy offers a FREE 1-week trial for new future members, with classes for the trial completed in a consecutive 5-day period.

Alpine Jiu-Jitsu Academy is a local, family-owned and operated Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu academy with a family friendly safe environment and a large kids’ program. The academy opened in 2016 and has been supporting the East County community since 2016, with 20+ years of experience. All head instructors are black belts with years of experience teaching children and adults of all ages, and coaches are CPR, AED, and First Aid certified.

The leadership team includes founder and instructor Frank Califano; head instructor Tarsis Humphreys; instructors Deborah Clem, David Goan, Danielle Kaiser, Hector Mena (assistant coach), Brittany Schofer (Coach Brittany), and Matt Heinemann. Frank Califano started his Jiu Jitsu practice close to 20 years ago and received his black belt from Master Fabio Santos, a 7th degree coral belt. Tarsis Humphreys is a 4th-degree black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and a multiple-time IBJJF World Champion, as well as a Brazilian, European, and Pan American Champion. Deborah Clem started training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in 2005, was awarded her black belt from Master Fabio Santos in 2015, is currently a 2nd degree black belt under Fabio, trains in Intrepid Arnis, and has worked in law enforcement for 23 years as a sergeant in San Diego County. Hector Mena is a purple belt under Tarsis Humphreys and Frank Califano, and Coach Brittany is a jiu jitsu brown belt and a dedicated law enforcement professional.

Professor Frank is passionate about bringing the art of Jiu Jitsu to East County communities, with a goal to provide a safe and welcoming space for all ages and experience levels to enjoy learning Jiu Jitsu. As head instructor, Tarsis focuses on technical precision, efficiency, and mental toughness in his teaching philosophy. Hector focuses on fundamental principles, attention to detail, and creating a supportive environment, and Coach Brittany emphasizes control, awareness, and effective technique in a safe, empowering, and challenging training environment.
