Cal Poly Humboldt Natural History Museum Youth Programs include activities such as the Wildlife Detectives Summer Youth Camp and The Feathered and the Ferocious: Birds & Dinosaurs Summer Youth Camp. The programs also offer School Visits, Discovery Days, and a Monthly Speaker Series. Families can explore exhibits such as Life Through Time, Redwood Forest, Prehistoric Mammals, and Fossil Focus, and visit the museum store and Play & Pack Adventure Backpacks.

The museum’s mission is to inspire an understanding and appreciation of the dynamic natural world through its collections, exhibits, and programs. The mission also states that by exploring the museum, visitors are encouraged to explore other places in northwest California, and that the museum provides a learning laboratory for Cal Poly Humboldt students and regional K–12 students and teachers. The leadership team includes Director Julie Van Sickle, Assistant Manager Melinda Bailey, Scientific Adviser/Director Emeritus Jeffrey White, Education Coordinator Holly Couling, Project Coordinator Lila Glansberg, Outreach Organizer Vanessa Blot, Membership/Arts Organizer Erielle Laniewski, and Curator Emeritus Rich Paselk.
