Camp Fire Central Coast of California

Camp Fire Central Coast of California is a youth program that follows a framework called “The Camp Fire Journey,” which is founded on the pillars of Social Emotional Learning (SEL). The program uses an approach called “THRIVEOLOGY,” which includes self-discovery, community connection, and engagement with nature.

Camp Fire Central Coast of California states that young people want to shape their world and that the organization focuses on helping them find their spark, lift their voice, and discover who they are, summarized in the phrase “Light the fire within.” Camp Fire Central Coast of California is a 501c3 organization. The program includes a Statement of Inclusion that welcomes and affirms young people and adults of all abilities and disabilities, experiences, races, ethnicities, socio-economic backgrounds, sexual orientations, gender identities and expressions, religion and non-religion, citizenship and immigration status, and any other category people use to define themselves or others. The organization thanks its community partners for their involvement.

One participant, Jess, says that Camp Fire has helped them connect with nature, taught them lessons, and brought them relationships that will last a lifetime, and describes Camp Fire as a way of life. Another participant, Rene, says they have learned to keep going, to not give up on their “Spark,” and to think about different types of mindsets and making good choices, and that these things will help in their future by increasing the chances of finding out what their “Spark” is and how to achieve it.
