Summer Tech Camp is operated by the Southeast Community Development Corporation (SCDC), a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization established in 1994. The program utilizes project-based learning to nurture curiosity, creativity and collaboration, and its stated goal is to increase the interest and skills of youth in science and technology. SCDC operates Summer Tech Camp to develop youth leadership and college preparation skills. Summer Tech Camp encourages individual growth by placing siblings and friends in separate groups and provides all devices, materials, and a full lunch; campers are asked to bring a backpack, a water bottle, and a snack for morning break, and closed-toe shoes are recommended when there are planned outdoor activities. Students must reside within the SELA region (Bell, Bell Gardens, Commerce, Cudahy, Florence-Firestone, Huntington Park, Lynwood, Maywood, South Gate, Vernon, and Walnut Park) to register, and the interest form is live until March 30th, 2026.

SCDC’s mission is to create, through education and technology, an environment in which individuals are inspired to explore, discover and learn, ultimately empowering children and adults to be confident and innovative individuals who contribute positively to the community. SCDC has developed strong partnerships with several hundred schools, churches, nonprofits, businesses, and community leaders. It has participated in community awareness campaigns focused on public health, census outreach, broadband and small business education, financial literacy, and environmental concerns; administered bus shuttles for the cities of Montebello and Huntington Park; overseen a federally funded house renovation project for the city of Huntington Park; managed a year 2000 Census Questionnaire Assistance Center and a community business assistance center; distributed loans through the Small Business Micro Loan Program; formed a Southeast Health Coalition; and co-sponsored a college scholarship program and college conference fair for southeast area students for fifteen years. Bell Tech Center, operated by SCDC, offers walk-ins for an internet cafe, color or black and white printing, facility sewing machines, a cricut, a heat press, and assistance with applying for free or discounted high-speed internet service.
