Academy of Design offers students the chance to design, illustrate, and sew fashion. The program is inspired by Project Runway Junior and aligns with the maker movement and design thinking practices. It is the only program for young designers in the Bay Area taught by a fashion industry insider.
• Ages: 8–13 years old
• Schedule: Hours Tuesday–Saturday, 10:00–6:00
Founder Pamela Moyce leads the Academy of Design and is a graduate of the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. Her designs have been sold nationwide in stores including Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Macy’s, Athleta, and REI. The program’s stated mission is to teach the process of design, promote the design mindset needed to think outside the box, and teach the skills needed to communicate ideas and build prototypes.
Parent feedback includes comments that the program has a design focus and allows freedom and individual style for each designer, and that one family was very happy to have discovered the Academy of Design during challenging times.
