About

Belmont-Redwood Shores Little League is a youth baseball program. Players take part in organized Little League baseball, including divisions such as T-Ball Rookies, T-Ball Veterans, and Intermediate (50/70) play.

• Ages: 5–13 years old

Belmont was one of the original Little Leagues formed in California back in 1957, with its first year of play in 1957 or 1958. The league officially became Belmont-Redwood Shores Little League in 1998, after Redwood Shores had been part of the Belmont Little League for many years. The league was reorganized in 1984, and in 1990 it added play at the new Belmont Sports Complex and the new Marina field. From 1981 to 1983 it ran an “A” division for T-ball, and in 1993 it added a dedicated T-Ball division again after a 10-year break, which grew to 12 teams by 1998. In 2000, the Farm division was split in two and the Minors divisions were renamed. In 2014, the T-ball division was split into T-Ball Rookies for 5-year-olds and T-Ball Veterans for 6-year-olds, with T-Ball Veterans starting with T-ball and progressing to a coach-pitch level by the end of the season. In 2016, the league added an Intermediate (50/70) division for 13-year-old players and fielded a record 59 teams, its largest year. The league has continued to grow, crossing 600 players for the first time in 2010 and 700 players for the first time four years later, and has typically had between 6 and 8 Majors teams, reaching 9 Majors teams in 2014.

Belmont-Redwood Shores Little League has a long record of tournament play and championships. From the start, the league has competed in the end-of-season International Little League All-Star tournament. It took the league 20 years of trying to win its first District 52 title, which it achieved in 1986. The league’s Majors teams have won 4 District 52 titles (1986, 2000, 2013, 2016), and it earned its first Sectional and State Championship in 2013. Other titles include 9/10 (1997, 2011), 10/11 (2012, 2016), and Big League 16–18 (1981, 1982, 1984?, 1985). In 2025, a Belmont-Redwood Shores Little League team won the D52 Majors Fall Ball championship.

The league’s history includes running one or two “Big League” teams for ages 16–18 starting in 1981, with the Belmont team winning the District 52 championship in 1981, 1982, and 1985. Over the years, the league has used multiple fields and practice areas, and home plate from the old Marina field is on display in the Snack Shack. The league also recruits youth umpires through its “Youth Umpires Wanted! Earn Money While Learning the...” effort.

Belmont-Redwood Shores Little League relies on volunteers such as coaches, scorekeepers, umpires, field prep crew, safety officers, team parents, photographers, fundraisers, alumni, and Board members. Families, sponsors, and the Belmont Parks and Recreation Department have supported the league and funded rehabilitation of practice cages and fields. All of the league’s fields are managed and maintained by the City of Belmont Parks and Recreation Department. The “Foul Ball Dance” fundraiser became a joint event with the Babe Ruth league and the girls’ softball “Bobby Sox” league.
