Katie Kerwin holds a B.F.A. from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts CAP21 Conservatory and has over 30 years of experience working with both youth and adults in the performing arts, including performing professionally and teaching acting, voice and dance. She has mastery in classical vocal training, musical theatre/pop vocal performance, Theatre Jazz, Broadway and contemporary tap dance technique, and musical theatre education, and has devoted the past 14 years to leading the Musical Theatre Program at the Westlake School for the Performing Arts. She has experience in early childhood development, has worked as an assistant to the Artistic Director and Resident Choreographer at the Show Palace Dinner Theatre in Florida, performed in the TONY award-winning production of Irving Berlin’s WHITE CHRISTMAS and is featured in the ensemble of the Broadway cast album released in 2006, and is a member of the Actor’s Equity Association as well as an accomplished figure skater and ice dancer.
Katie Kerwin’s musical theatre and Broadway vocal programming are described as award-winning, and she is a proud member of the Actor’s Equity Association. Through the non-profit organization Friends of Broadway Babies and Kids, she has made strides in making the performing arts accessible to all and continues her work at schools across California.
Parents describe Broadway Babies and Kids as a “fun place for little ones to sing, dance and have indoor free play,” and say that owner/teacher Ms. Katie is “outstanding” and “an expert at engaging kids of all ages and introducing them to musical concepts in a playful and effective way.” One parent, Samira, says her girls “absolutely LOVE Broadway Babies and Kids,” and that the owner is “always full of enthusiasm and patience,” and that the kids “always look like they are having a blast, while gaining new skills and making friends along the way.” Another parent, Jillian, shares that her child’s first experience in theater there has been “positive and supportive” and thanks the program for its care, support, resilience, and resourcefulness “through major obstacles.” A parent named Kim notes that her daughter has taken private vocal and acting classes with Ms. Katie for over six years, starting as a “young shy kiddo” and developing vocal and musical theatre acting skills that have allowed her to achieve goals as an onstage Bay Area performer with lead and featured ensemble roles. A former student, Aly, now a member of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, states, “I truly would not be here without you!”
