Building Kidz of Berkeley
Building Kidz of Berkeley, 1450 Sixth St., Berkeley, CA 94710
About
Building Kidz of Berkeley offers a mix of music, dance, theater, and Broadway style productions along with activities such as finger painting, pretend play, circle time, story time, art, and curriculum projects. The program uses a proprietary performing arts curriculum that integrates music, dance, and theater into age-appropriate development standards, and it also uses a Learning Through Life Experiences (LTLE) curriculum that makes learning experimental, imaginative, and sensory based. The program includes a comprehensive, interactive, and arts-integrated academic learning approach and provides infant, toddler, and preschool programs.
• Ages: 0–5 years old
• Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 am–5:00 pm
The program’s mission is to create a local community where children are challenged intellectually, become empowered and interested in lifelong learning, and engage in the arts to accelerate the development of their Confidence, Commitment, and Character. The program is locally owned as a community child care center and specializes in performing arts to enhance academic excellence, with learning through life experiences, a customized curriculum, and daily integration of performing arts within all programs. Monthly meal plans are offered with nutrient-dense choices provided daily.
The school environment is sanitized daily, and comprehensive safety protocols have been implemented. Children are cared for by teachers and caregivers using age-appropriate educational materials for kinesthetic, audial, visual, and touch learners. Security measures include video cameras throughout classrooms and playgrounds, touch pad entry, and parent communication through the Brightwheel app. Parents of infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and kindergartners use these enhanced security and communication features.
The curriculum is delivered by preschool teachers and support staff who have been dedicated to early childhood education and the Building Kidz mission for many years. The leadership team includes Executive Director Sabrina Bhandari, Ms Amel for Little Learners, Ms Rossy as Administrative Assistant and Teacher’s Aide for the Infant Classroom, and Ms Ariana for Little Learners. The program holds California License 013423757.
Building Kidz of Berkeley was previously operating as Golden Gate Learning Center and became a Building Kidz franchisee in January 2024. As a franchisor, Building Kidz Worldwide dedicates 25% of profits to helping underprivileged children at home and around the world through its non-profit, Building Futures Worldwide, which supports orphaned and abandoned children, children with hearing disabilities or vision impairment, and children with juvenile diabetes.
Parent feedback includes reports of detailed communication about children’s day-to-day experiences, including photos, videos, and notes about changes such as rashes or temperament. One parent describes the facility as new with deep cleanings every night and regular COVID testing of teachers. Other parents describe Building Kidz as a place many children call home, express enthusiasm about having a 3-year-old attend, and note appreciation for a low teacher-to-student ratio, a structured day with fun activities, and the use of the Brightwheel app to follow their child’s day.
