About
Cal Basketball Camps offers small group instruction led by a Cal coach, player, or staff member where campers work on the fundamentals and improve foundational skills. Campers learn advanced offensive and defensive techniques, fine-tune positional skills, learn the technique of 3-point shooting, and play daily scrimmages as part of the camp schedule.
• Ages: 6–18 years old
• Schedule: Multi-day and single-day sessions with options such as Monday–Thursday or Saturday-only camps
• Price: Lunch is available for purchase at registration for Bear for a Day Camp for $5, and prices are subject to increase as camp exceeds 25%/50%/75% capacity.
Cal Basketball Camps includes options such as Kids Camp I for girls ages 6–13, Kids Camp II for coed campers ages 6–13, and Bear for a Day for girls ages 12–18. Cal Kids Camp runs Monday–Thursday from 9:00AM–4:00PM with check-in on Monday at 8:30AM, and Bear for a Day Camp runs on Saturday from 9:00AM–4:00PM with check-in at 8:30AM. Each camper receives a Cal camp t-shirt and additional prizes, and upon arrival participants are evaluated and split into smaller groups according to age and ability. Most camps have an athletic trainer on-site to help with illness or injury, and in case of an emergency campers will be transported to the nearest hospital. If a family cancels up until 24 hours prior to camp check-in, they receive a camp credit voucher for tuition fees paid that is good through the following year for any sport and is transferable to any immediate family member. Suggested items to bring include athletic on-court clothing, athletic shoes, a water bottle, a packed lunch and snacks, and a small gym bag or backpack; for Cal Kids Camp, lunch is not provided and campers should bring a packed lunch, while for Bear for a Day Camp, lunch can be purchased at registration for $5 with multiple options.
Campers train with the Cal Women’s Basketball staff and players. The leadership team includes Charmin Smith as Head Coach for Women’s Basketball, Eliza Pierre as Camp Director, Tess Romine-Black as Associate Camp Director, and assistant coaches Heidi Heintz, Travon Bryant, and Jenny Huth, who also serves as recruiting coordinator. Charmin Smith is an award-winning coach, former professional player, active board member, and the first-ever Black Head Coach for the Cal women’s basketball program. Eliza Pierre set records for steals and games played, led the Golden Bears to their first Final Four appearance in 2013, coached at UC Santa Barbara for four years, and was named to Silver Waves Media's Top 50 Most Impactful Women's Assistants list in June 2024. Tess Romine-Black oversees operations for the Women’s Basketball program, including budget management, team travel, student managers, and events such as the annual banquet and initiatives like the Race for Change and the Raising the B.A.R Invitational. Heidi Heintz was named to the 2019 WBCA Thirty Under 30 and has coaching and playing experience at Division I and professional levels. Travon Bryant has over eight years of coaching experience at the NBA and G-League level, has worked with NBA All-Stars Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, and at Cal is responsible for post-player development, defensive game planning, and recruiting efforts. Jenny Huth has over 15 years of coaching women’s basketball at the Division I level. The Race for Change initiative connected to the program raised over $30,000 for Cal’s Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging Justice Office.
