The CalTeach Tutoring Program was created to support students in virtual learning during the COVID-19 pandemic, and during the COVID-19 pandemic the program shifted to a virtual model for field placements. CalTeach students are placed either in a mentor teacher K-12 STEM classroom or paired with a Bay Area family for 1:1 K-12 STEM tutoring. First launched in Spring 2020, the STEM Ambassadors program focuses on supporting math or science student learning. CalTeach is a teacher preparation program at UC Berkeley that offers a STEM education minor and an opportunity for STEM majors to earn a California math and science teaching credential alongside their bachelor’s degree. CalTeach states a commitment and mission to improve K–12 public math and science education in the Bay Area and across the state. As public health situations are changing, CalTeach notes that it cannot guarantee that this tutoring program will continue for future semesters. If a student cannot be matched immediately, the program may offer placement on a Reconsideration Priority list.
