About
The CalTeach K-12 STEM Tutoring Program (STEM Ambassadors) offers math and science tutoring that includes planned enrichment activities, hands-on activities, and support and motivation in understanding math or science. CalTeach undergraduate STEM majors may have course assignments that include planning lessons for children as part of this program. Tutoring is provided only in math and science.
• Ages: 5–18 years old
• Schedule: Elementary school students are tutored 1 hour per week; middle and high school students are tutored 2 hours per week
• Price: Free Fall 2022 Remote tutoring is available.
The STEM Ambassadors program was first launched in Spring 2020. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the program shifted to a virtual model for field placements and provides remote and virtual tutoring. CalTeach students are placed in a mentor teacher K-12 STEM classroom or paired with a Bay Area family for 1:1 K-12 STEM tutoring, and the STEM Ambassadors program pairs CalTeach students at UC Berkeley with families to support math or science student learning. CalTeach’s commitment and mission is to improve K–12 public math and science education in the Bay Area and across the state.
CalTeach is a program for undergraduate STEM majors with an interest in exploring a career in education. CalTeach is a teacher preparation program available at all UC campuses, and at UC Berkeley it offers a STEM education minor and an opportunity for STEM majors to earn a California math and science teaching credential alongside their bachelor's degree. Families may be placed on a Reconsideration Priority list if not matched immediately.
