About

The CalTeach K-12 STEM Tutoring Program (STEM Ambassadors) pairs CalTeach students at UC Berkeley with families to provide math tutoring, science tutoring, and other tutoring focused on understanding math or science. The program includes planned enrichment activities, planning lessons, and hands-on activities. A large number of virtual placements are 1:1 tutoring placements with a Bay Area K-12 youth in a math or science tutoring placement for the semester.

• Ages: 5–18 years old
• Schedule: Elementary students are tutored 1 hour per week; middle and high school students are tutored 2 hours per week.
• Price: Free Fall 2022 Remote tutoring is available now!

First launched in Spring 2020, the STEM Ambassadors program was created to support students in virtual learning during the COVID-19 pandemic. During the COVID-19 pandemic, CalTeach shifted to a virtual model for its field placements, and CalTeach students are placed either in a mentor teacher K-12 STEM classroom or paired with a Bay Area family for 1:1 K-12 STEM tutoring. CalTeach is a teacher preparation program for undergraduate STEM majors with an interest in exploring a career in education, and at UC Berkeley it offers a STEM education minor and an option for STEM majors to earn a California math and science teaching credential alongside their bachelor’s degree. As public health situations are changing, CalTeach states that it cannot guarantee that this tutoring program will continue for future semesters.
