About
Camps and Programs at The Lawrence Hall of Science include hands-on exhibits, in-person camps for students entering grades 1–6 filled with building, experimenting, and discoveries, and workshops that feature activities like hands-on biotech. Participants can meet live animals, explore the Outdoor Nature Lab, and visit exhibits and activities such as Future of Food and Mindball, where guests use sensors on their foreheads to move a small ball using only their minds.
• Schedule: Open Wednesday–Sunday with general hours from 10:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.
The Lawrence Hall of Science states that discovery runs through everything it does and that it fosters scientific exploration with a focus on equitable learning experiences. Its work includes designing curriculum, engaging learners, and empowering educators, with an emphasis on learning made fun, described as turning “ha ha” moments into “aha!” moments. The organization collaborates with a variety of partners to design, implement, and scale effective and equitable learning experiences. Camps and programs take place alongside amenities such as the ‘ammatka Cafe, which offers Ohlone-forward snacks, meals, and beverages, and The Lawrence Discovery Store.
Virtual workshop attendees describe feeling encouraged to use questioning strategies shared in the program’s training and note that many BEETLES components are already part of their programs. Other attendees report appreciating the pacing of events and the chance to participate as learners. One virtual workshop attendee attributes positive feedback about their outdoor educators and high school leaders to professional development received from the program’s leadership institute and professional learning sessions.
