About

Centro Latino Spanish Classes offers Spanish lessons and Portuguese lessons in small groups with classes running all year round. The program has no registration fee and provides flexible schedules with several class format options.

• Schedule: Classes are available Monday–Friday from 9:00 am to 8:30 pm and Saturday from 10:00 am to 2:30 pm, with regular 3‑month levels and multiple weekly class options, plus intensive and one‑week formats.

Centro Latino has been providing Spanish and Portuguese lessons to the East Bay community since 1993, for over 32 years. The Regular Program includes levels that each last 3 months, with options to meet twice a week for 1.5 hours, once a week for 3 hours, or on Saturdays for 2 hours. The Regular Intensive Program for Beginners, Fast Beginners, and Advanced Beginners meets twice a week for 3 hours, for a total of 24 hours a month. The Intensive One-Week Program for all levels includes 2 hours of private lessons and 3 hours of group classes, and a student can take as many one-week sessions as they want.

Teachers at Centro Latino Spanish Classes are professional native speakers, with instructors from over five different countries and one instructor who was born in the U.S. but raised among native Spanish speakers. The facilities at Centro Latino are described as very good, and Esther runs the business. The program states that its mission is to serve the community by providing language learning opportunities that foster cultural understanding and exchange, to find ways to bridge communication gaps between cultures, to empower individuals to connect through the Spanish language, and to make language study stimulating and enjoyable while creating a sense of community among students and teachers.

One parent, Patricia O., reports that teachers at Centro Latino are dedicated and that the instructors are native speakers who teach, encourage students to learn, and share Latino culture. Another parent, Ann J., notes that the teachers are professional and excellent, that classes are small with active participation, and that Esther is helpful; this parent also mentions having taken two months of intensive classes and feeling comfortable speaking Spanish in public spaces. Other students, including Nancy V., Elizabeth, Geoff V., and Frank, describe small serious classes, time to converse in small groups, supportive teachers, and very good facilities, and some mention attending classes for several years.
