Step One School

Step One School offers three distinct programs called Two Year Olds, Preschool, and Extended Care. Play is the primary framework for learning in early childhood at Step One School, and the program focuses on diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging. Its core values include fostering learning without undue pressure, nourishing curiosity through hands-on interactions, enhancing grounding in the natural world, encouraging confidence and pride in unique strengths and abilities, supporting teachers through mentoring and collaboration, strengthening collaborative relationships with families, and examining relationships and behavior with the intent of ending bias and enhancing equitable and inclusive practices.

Step One School was established in 1981 and has an over 40 year history of early education, with an over 40 year history of dynamic, thoughtful, and innovative early education that speaks to the whole child. Its mission is to nurture children’s love of life and learning in a community rooted in respect for self and humanity.
