About
UC Berkeley Early Childhood Education Program is UC Berkeley’s multi-site lab school program that provides care and education to infants, toddlers, and preschoolers at five centers in Berkeley and Albany. The program offers intentional, evidence-based education and care led by a staff of highly trained early childhood educators who collaborate with families, researchers, and other professionals in the field.
• Ages: 0–5 years old
• Schedule: Office hours Monday–Friday, 8:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m.; General Information office hours Monday–Friday, 8:15 a.m.–5:15 p.m.
The program’s mission states that it teaches UC Berkeley’s youngest students in a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment that sparks curiosity and inspires a life-long love for inquiry, research, reflection, and action. The mission also states that the program teaches families, students, and educators to see and unlock the unique potential of each child, and that it researches early childhood development and the environmental conditions and educational processes that best encourage healthy development. According to the mission, the program serves UC Berkeley’s students, faculty, and staff so they can pursue excellence in their fields while their children receive high-quality early education, and it also serves as a model for nurturing children, their families, and a healthier society. The mission further states that the program aspires to become a global leader in early childhood education and research and supports UC Berkeley in its quest to become the nation’s most family-responsive campus.
The leadership team includes Executive Director Moises Roman; Admissions Coordinator Marina Moreida; Office Administrator Eli Cruz; Training & Research Coordinator Luvy Vanegas-Grimaud; Site Director Daiad Aljalili for the Clark Kerr Child Development Center Preschool Program and Clark Kerr Child Development Center Infant & Toddler Program; Center Director Boris Alvarado for Dwight Way Child Development Center; Site Director Sasha Leveton for Harold E. Jones Child Study Center; Site Director Laureana Medrano for Haste Street Child Development Center; and Site Director Shima Askari for University Village Albany Child Development Center and University Village Albany Infant Development Center. The programs are open to UC Berkeley students, faculty, and staff, as well as members of the local community who are unaffiliated with UC Berkeley.
