Camp JEM Summer Experience is part of a community center founded by Rabbi Hertzel Illulian. The center has been serving the Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, Westwood, Brentwood, Pico-Robertson, and West Hollywood areas for over 40 years. Its mission is to provide a safe, all-embracing community center for youth after school with guidance and mentors to build their character and channel their energy in a positive way through sports, recreational, and educational activities while instilling moral values and tolerance, uniting youth to become caring citizens and productive leaders of society, and preventing drugs, violence, abuse, addictions, and modern calamities. The center uses contemporary technology, sports activities, and a hands-on approach to learning to present Jewish history, values, and traditions, and it is non-denominational and welcomes everyone, including providing a setting for non-Jewish children to gain a positive perspective and awareness of Jewish heritage. The JEM Community Center provides facilities and programs for thousands of children, youths, adolescents, young professionals, and adults in an entertaining and educating way, including serving underprivileged children throughout Los Angeles County, and it primarily serves pre–high school children up to college and their families from across the Los Angeles area.
