SoCal Youth Program takes place at a multi-mountain resort where kids take part in activities such as skiing, snowboarding, snow tubing, sledding, mountain biking, golf, hiking, scenic sky chair rides, and basecamp activities like a zip line. Participants may also use areas such as a downhill bike park, cross-country bike trails, terrain parks, a snow tube park, and a snow play area. Golf activities can include a 9-hole course, a 300-yard driving area, a chipping area, a bunker area, and a putting area.

Big Bear Mountain Resort, which runs the SoCal Youth Program, has a history that includes Snow Valley being founded in 1937, Snow Summit in 1952, and Bear Mountain in 1943, with earlier recreation activity at the area known as Fish Camp dating back to 1924 and the first tow rope in Southern California built there in 1932. The resort operates three mountains and has 678 acres of mountain terrain used for activities in different seasons. The resort’s snowmaking system includes more than 560 hydrants, 330 snow guns, and 40 fans that can convert 6,000 gallons of water to snow per minute, and it is known for having the most operating days per season in Southern California. Bear Mountain includes SoCal’s only halfpipes and the highest lift-served peak in Southern California. Snow Summit was selected to host the inaugural Winter X Games in 1997. Big Bear Mountain Resort supports the Care For Big Bear campaign, which focuses on keeping Big Bear Lake clean and cared for by showing respect for the environment, the community, and other visitors.
