About

Dell’Arte Youth Academy is connected with Dell’Arte International, a globally recognized center for physical theatre training, performance, and research. The program is part of an organization that focuses on ensemble-based physical theatre, original performance, and storytelling, and it operates within a school that offers a range of physical theatre training programs.

Dell’Arte International was founded in Berkeley in 1971 and has over 50 years of history cultivating ensemble work, original performance, and storytelling. It is rooted in the rural landscape of Northern California and is one of a handful of rural professional ensemble theatres in the United States. Dell’Arte International is internationally recognized for its contribution to American theatre through its non-urban point of view and ensemble practice. The School offers a one year certificate program in Physical Theatre, a three year MFA in Ensemble Based Physical Theatre, summer workshops, and a Study Abroad program in Bali. The School’s three year MFA in Ensemble Based Physical Theatre is accredited by NAST. Dell’Arte International serves as a cultural hub where artists and neighbors gather. The organization’s mission states that it trains daring, innovative actor-creators in ensemble-based physical theatre, builds community through art, and serves as a place where artists and neighbors explore what matters most about their art, themselves, and the world around them. The leadership team includes Producing Artistic Director Noah Bremer, Events Manager Sarah McKinney, and Prison Program Director and Bali Program Co-Director Janessa Johnsrude.
