About

Bolinas Surf Lessons offers surf lessons, summer camps, and surf camps. The program uses a proven technique that has been successful in teaching people of all ages to surf for more than 20 years. Since Bolinas has two surf spots that break at almost every tide, lessons take place where there is room to learn in conditions suited to beginners and intermediate surfers.

• Ages: 5–18 years old
• Schedule: Surf lessons are offered from March through October.
• Price: Surfboards are included in the lesson price, and 4/3mm wetsuits and booties are available for a $25 cleaning fee.

All equipment needed for lessons is available and can be reserved at the time of booking, and participants who need wetsuits are asked to arrive 10 minutes before the lesson to put them on. All participants must sign a digital waiver after booking, and each child’s waiver must be completed by that child’s actual parent or legal guardian. Bolinas Surf Lessons was established in 1998 by Nick Krieger and is described as the Bay Area’s original surf school, with 60+ 5-star reviews. Bolinas is located at the southern end of the Point Reyes National Seashore, surrounded by ocean and parkland.

Bolinas Surf Lessons describes the left side surf spot, called The Channel, as suited for beginners practicing popping up in the white water, where it is not uncommon to catch 20 or 30 waves during a lesson. The right side surf spot, called The Patch, is described as a long, slow reef break for beginners and intermediate surfers to work on timing and maneuvering, where riders can catch waves before they break and sometimes get rides over 60 seconds on ideal days.

Parent reviews mention semi-private and private lessons with instructors such as Tosh, Chloe, and Nick, and describe instructors as informative, encouraging, relaxed, and friendly, with one parent noting hopes to return for other camps and activities offered.
