The Congressional Award program at the Teen Center is the United States Congress’ award for young Americans and is non-partisan, voluntary, and non-competitive. It is open to all 14- to 23-year-olds, with registration allowed starting at age 13½ and activities to be completed before the 24th birthday. Participants can earn Bronze, Silver, and Gold Congressional Award Certificates and Medals by setting goals in Volunteer Public Service, Personal Development, Physical Fitness, and Expedition/Exploration, and the program has no minimum grade point average requirements and accommodates young people with special needs or disabilities who are willing to take the challenge.
The Youth Sponsorship Program and Teen Sponsorship match incoming youth and teens to peers according to gender, age or grade, and interests or hobbies. For families moving to Edwards AFB, Teen Sponsorship pairs teens with someone of the same age, grade, gender, and with similar interests, and if a family is PCS’ing from Edwards, the Teen Center can contact the Teen Center at the gaining location so the teen can correspond with someone who lives there.
