The program includes tutoring in reading for people 18 or older who speak and understand English but read and write below an 8th grade level. It also offers English Naturally, a conversation class and conversation group to improve English conversation skills and learn more American expressions.

• Schedule: Volunteer tutors meet twice weekly with an adult learner for a minimum of six months; English Naturally conversation groups meet on multiple days and times each week.
• Price: The program offers FREE one-on-one tutoring for adults who speak and understand English, but read and write below 8th grade level.

Burbank Public Library has provided literacy services since 1992. Learners are matched with a volunteer for twice-a-week tutoring sessions if they qualify after an assessment, and to enroll, an interview is required during which an assessment to measure current reading abilities is given. Volunteer tutors must be 18 or older, and no experience is necessary. Burbank Public Library Literacy Services is a member of California Library Literacy Services and receives matching funds from the California State Library. One adult learner shared, “Everything you do is excellent. Please continue doing it. I had books, instruments, workbooks, and a tutor who always went above and beyond.”
