Youth Afterschool Clay & Winter Camps and Spring/Summer Clay Camp offers an after school clay class where participants use the pottery wheel and learn various clay building methods. The program also includes Spring/Summer Clay Camp and Summer Camp with clay activities, and provides challenging projects for teens.
• Ages: 5–16 years old
• Schedule: After school clay class meets once a week from 3:30–5:30 on Mondays or Tuesdays; Spring/Summer Clay Camp runs in week-long sessions of 5 consecutive days from 9:00–11:30am, Monday–Friday
The studio where the program takes place is outfitted with three electric kilns, 16 potter's wheels, a slab roller, an extruder, a Peter Pugger, and various working surfaces, and fires to cone 5 (2205°F) to cone 6 (2232°F). Snacks are provided for the after school clay class, and Spring/Summer Clay Camp also includes a snack. Clay activities are tailored to each group’s maturity level, with challenging projects provided to teens. Sneakers are required in the studio, and short fingernails are described as ideal for all classes.
The studio began as a creative space in the village of Carlsbad over 10 years ago. Its stated mission is to unite individuals while cultivating a creative outlet through the use of clay. The studio describes having worked to foster a supportive and welcoming “CLAYUNITY” for all and to create a welcoming community of new and seasoned artists. All classes, including kids camps and recurring classes, are non-refundable and may be subject to a 20% rescheduling fee, with one reschedule allowed if at least 72 hours’ notice is given. If a participant cancels with less than 24 hours’ notice or arrives more than 15 minutes late, the studio states that it does not offer a credit or reschedule, and by signing up online, participants agree to these policies and studio rules.
