Since 1992, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Carson has operated as a safe, fun and welcoming place after school for youth. The organization offers high quality programming during and after school in Carson, Gardena, Watts and South Los Angeles for youth ages 6–18 years old and serves nearly 5,000 elementary, middle and high school youth each day. The mission of Boys & Girls Clubs of Carson is to offer young people a safe environment where they can have fun and be themselves, dedicated adult mentors who respect and listen to them, and outcome-based programs that empower youth to become lifelong learners.
The leadership team includes Kim Richards, Boys & Girls Clubs of Carson CEO; Melissa Wickman, VP of Development & Marketing; and Don Abbe, who ensures that every dollar is spent in the most efficient manner and works closely with auditors to make sure that the organization complies with all federal, state and local statutory requirements. The organization partners with community, corporate and foundation partners who invest in its programs. Student enrollment in an LAUSD school during 2024–2025 is required to attend the Summer Day Camp, and a parent or guardian must submit one application per LAUSD student to enroll. Members and alumni describe feeling supported and encouraged at the Club, including Andrew, Kaetlyn, Aireana, and Nathan, as well as board leader and alum Roger von Ting and CEO Kim Richards in their testimonials about the Boys & Girls Clubs of Carson.
