The Jewel Box Children’s Theater Company

The Jewel Box Children’s Theater Company offers Jewel Box Radio Hour, where cast members write songs, skits, and jokes for an original radio show. It also offers Storytelling Through Dance, Dance Create & Express, Free Family Friday Workshops, Community Sing-A-Long, Performance Troupe, Good Day Cabaret, Private Lessons, Makeup Design Class, Costume Design Class, Spring Show, and Ensemble Singing.

• Jewel Box Radio Hour — Rehearsals Tuesdays 4pm–5:30pm starting September 29, 2026 · $300 · Cast members help build an original radio show by writing songs, skits, and jokes; performance at the Long Beach Playhouse.
• Storytelling Through Dance — Ages 6 to 8; Ages 9 to 12 · Saturdays, September 12th, 19th & 26th · $45 · 3-week workshop series led by Phyre Romero; all levels welcome.
• Dance Create & Express — Ages 5–10; Ages 11 and up · Tuesdays or Thursdays · $150 · 10-week workshop series led by Christopher Ross.
• Free Family Friday Workshops — Fridays at 5pm · $0 · Weekly family-friendly workshops; parent participation is encouraged.
• Community Sing-A-Long — Meets weekly; rehearsals Thursdays 4pm–5:30pm · Choir with vocal warmups, simple music, theatre games, and singing.
• Performance Troupe — Performs at various local community events; includes singing, dancing, and fun.
• Good Day Cabaret — Afternoon of music and fun for the whole family.
• Private Lessons — 30-minute musical theater performance, acting, and audition prep lessons tailored to each student.
• Makeup Design Class — Schedule coming soon · Students learn theatrical makeup design, application, safety, and hygiene.
• Costume Design Class — Schedule coming soon · Intro to making costumes, including illustration, design concepts, and sewing.
• Spring Show — Schedule TBA Spring 2027 · Students help create characters, write the story and songs, and put together an original musical.

About the provider

The Jewel Box Children’s Theater Company was founded in 2016. It is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit creating equitable theater and music classes that are accessible and inclusive for all children in the greater Long Beach area. Anna Kate Mohler and Andrew Zacharias lead the program. Anna Kate Mohler was recognized by Lena Gonzalez and the California State Senate in 2022 and named a 69th District Woman of Distinction in 2024. The organization serves over 2,000 students annually, works with home school charters, is an approved vendor for Long Beach Unified School District, and is committed to bringing free music and theater instruction to underserved areas.

Scholarships are available for some programs. All children must be accompanied by an adult for Free Fridays Workshops. Parent participation is encouraged for Free Family Friday Workshops.
