MCBJJ Summer Camp is led by owner and head instructor Marcelo Cavalcanti, who is a 4th degree black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and a Certified Instructor by the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation. Marcelo Cavalcanti has trained in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu since 1992, began his fight career in the 1990s, and received his black belt under Rigan Machado in 2003. The academy states that its mission is to focus on teaching and promoting the sport of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and to strive to produce positive results for students inside and outside the academy in their daily lives. The beginner’s program at the academy covers fundamentals of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in a dynamic and detailed class, while intermediate and advanced students focus on strategy, refining technique, learning to “flow” with an opponent, and applying knowledge in free sparring sessions. The program notes that kids will learn that size is not relevant compared to pure technique.
The leadership of MCBJJ is described as Marcelo Cavalcanti serving as owner and head coach at the academy. His community roles include serving as Head Instructor of the South Bay YMCA in California and creating the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Program for the Braille Institute. He organized the 1st No-Gi Fightwear BJJ Tournament in 2005, which featured fighters Jeff Glover, Bill Cooper, Rani Yahya, and Marco “Parrumpinha” da Matta, with Master Rickson Gracie as a special guest in attendance. The academy reports being a Ring Team Affiliate and notes that it has FIVE STARS ON GOOGLE.
