About
S.C.R.A.P. Gallery offers arts and science workshops where children create art on-site using donated discarded materials while learning about environmental issues, arts, culture, and science. Activities and projects include the Dia de los Muertos student art contest, the Pieces for Peace exhibit, The Spider Woman, and Color a Sea Free of Plastic Debris. The program also offers field trips for K–12 students that connect creative projects with topics such as GMOs, renewable energy, water scarcity, and climate change through permanent and temporary interactive exhibits.

The mission of S.C.R.A.P. Gallery is to actively engage youth as stewards of their environment through a concentrated, hands-on, educational effort stressing the Four R’s – Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Responsibility. The gallery exhibits works of art by renowned artists alongside works created by S.C.R.A.P. Gallery youth. Karen Riley serves as Executive Director. S.C.R.A.P. Gallery operates as a unique environmental art museum and an engaging mobile program that travels to schools, libraries, festivals, events, and other educational venues throughout the Coachella Valley via its S.C.R.A.P. Van Gogh mobile unit. Materials donated by local businesses and manufacturers are available for reuse by teachers, artists, and community programs, and S.C.R.A.P. Gallery works with youth from all over Southern California to promote conservation and reuse. The program teaches children to be creative while building science, technology, engineering, art, and math (S.T.E.A.M.) skills, and 80% of donations go to core programming year round, including the S.C.R.A.P. Van Gogh mobile unit.
