About
S.C.R.A.P. Gallery offers hands-on exploration with discarded materials, arts and science workshops, and a student art contest. The program also features an Every Day is Earth Day celebration at Century Park in Cathedral City on April 22, 2026, and includes interactive exhibits on topics such as GMOs, renewable energy, water scarcity, and climate change. Children create art using donated discarded materials while learning about environmental issues, arts, culture, science and more, and their work is shown alongside pieces by renowned artists in the gallery’s exhibits.
• Ages: 5–18 years old
S.C.R.A.P. Gallery is led by Executive Director Karen Riley. Its mission is to actively engage youth as stewards of their environment through a concentrated, hands-on educational effort stressing the Four R’s – Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Responsibility. The program travels to schools, libraries, festivals, events, and other educational venues throughout the Coachella Valley and works with youth from all over Southern California to promote conservation and reuse by teaching them to creatively practice the Four R’s. S.C.R.A.P. Van Gogh is the mobile unit that serves as an outreach arm and travels to deliver innovative art and environmental education programs, and materials donated by local businesses and manufacturers are available for reuse by teachers, artists, and community programs. S.C.R.A.P. Gallery is the only children’s art and environmental conservation museum in Coachella Valley and the only one of its kind in Riverside County, and 80% of donations go to core programming year round, including the S.C.R.A.P.
