About
Cazadero Music Camp offers large ensembles such as Concert Band, Orchestra, and Jazz Band, along with Piano, Guitar, and an All Camp Choir. Campers rehearse and play outdoors and also spend time enjoying the creek, pool, and campfire. The JumpStart in Music program is a three day, condensed immersion program connected to the camp’s offerings.

• Schedule: Three day, condensed immersion program (JumpStart in Music)
For over 60 years, Cazadero Music Camp has brought together youth from a broad range of backgrounds and music abilities in a rich music curriculum, and for more than 65 years it has offered a dynamic sleep-away camp program that balances in-depth music education and summer camp fun. The camp’s mission states that Cazadero Music Camp inspires a love of music and learning in youth and provides a nurturing, inspirational environment for young musicians ages 9–18. Cazadero Music Camp reports that 97% of campers say their playing improved at Caz and that 100% of parents would recommend Caz to a friend, and it reaches over 1,400 youth each year through its Summer Music Camp and JumpStart in Music programs.
The leadership team includes Music Camp Director Carolyn Niehaus-Owen, Executive Director Emily Wainacht, Assistant Camp Director Jonathan Knight, Camp Registration Manager Emily Brockman, and Bookkeeper & Office Manager Debbie Buracker, and it recognizes music educator and founder Robert William Lutt (1929–2011). The program describes its conductors as world-class and notes that large ensembles have a new conductor every week who introduces a challenging, interesting, and diverse repertoire. Cazadero Music Camp also states that students of various ability levels make rapid progress at camp with an in-depth music curriculum and nurturing environment.
Cazadero Music Camp supports public school music programs and offers JumpStart in Music as a low-cost, high-impact weekend version of the Summer Music Camp for school and school district music programs. JumpStart in Music brings Bay Area public school students, their music teachers, and high school mentors together for a three day, condensed immersion program and is described as producing remarkable results. The camp’s scholarship program helps hundreds of young musicians with financial need take part in the program each year.
