About
Sunrise Swans Artistic Swim Team focuses on artistic swimming and synchronized swimming, with swimmers taking part in Dual Meets and League Championships. The team also runs special events and clinics such as a Try-Synchro Clinic, Spring Training Clinics, Fall/Winter Clinics, a Swim-a-Thon fundraiser, and an annual Watershow.
• Schedule: The regular competitive season is typically 12 weeks long.
The Sunrise Swans Artistic Swim Team has been in the Citrus Heights area since 1968 and operates as an independent recreational team while competing in Dual Meets and League Championships as part of the Valley Foothill Competitive Aquatics League (VFCAL). Swimmers are classified in two levels, Novice and Intermediate, and all swimmers start at the Novice level unless petitioned and approved by VFCAL, with Intermediate qualification based on figures placement at the all-team Championships Meet in July at the end of the VFCAL season. The team also offers a Junior Program and uses the motto, “Once A Swan, Always A Swan.” All new swimmers need to be able to swim one length of the pool (25 m) unassisted.
The team’s mission statement is “Creating strong, confident athletes, while building friendships, artistic swimming skills, and self-esteem!” The leadership team for the 2025 season includes Head Coach Heather, Coach Jamie, Coach Tarissa, and Coach Lilianna. Coach Heather previously coached recreational gymnastics with children of all ages and has served as team parent, board member, head judge, referee, and coach for the Swans, and has trained team judges and officiated meets. Coach Jamie began artistic swimming in 2005 with the Roseville Aquabunnies, joined the Sunrise Swans in 2006, swam for the team for 10 years, volunteered as a novice coach for 4 of those years, and the 2025 season will be her 10th year as an official coach, primarily working with Intermediate swimmers and older Novice swimmers. Coach Tarissa was a Swan for 10 years, served as a junior coach, then coached for the Swans for 5 years after retiring as a swimmer, swam with Sac Valley Masters Adult League for 1 year, and has over 20 years of experience teaching and working with school-age children. Coach Lilianna has competed as a synchronized swimmer for over 12 years, began with the Sunrise Swans, went on to compete year-round in a highly competitive program, and earned opportunities to perform at the national level with USA Synchronized Swimming.
The team holds practices at Sunrise Parks and Recreational facilities and is affiliated with the local Valley-Foothill Competitive Aquatics League (VFCAL). Community and fundraising activities include a Swim-a-Thon fundraiser where swimmers raise funds to support the team and season expenses, an Artistic Swim-A-Thon, a Dine & Donate event at Round Table Pizza where a portion of purchases is donated back to the team, a Sponsor-a-Day Calendar Fundraiser, and a Watershow where proceeds and donations go toward supporting athletes, equipment, and training opportunities for the 2026 season. The team relies on family engagement to help run events such as meets, the Swim-a-Thon, the Watershow, and other activities.
