Costa Mesa Jiu Jitsu – Kids Programs is offered by Costa Mesa Jiu Jitsu at Double Ops and includes a free trial. The program offers Jiu Jitsu for everyone, tailored to all skill levels, with no experience required and a focus on teaching Jiu-Jitsu from the ground up starting with basic techniques. The kids Jiu Jitsu program is described as Bully-Proof and includes instruction on controlling larger and stronger opponents without using kicks, punches, or strength, with a focus on self-defense and self-protection. Private classes are available for children and adults, and children have opportunities to participate in local and national tournaments. The program emphasizes physical fitness in response to childhood obesity rates, provides an inclusive environment where children progress alongside peers, and focuses on new students with personalized attention and instruction tailored to individual needs.

Costa Mesa Jiu Jitsu’s coaching team has decades of combined experience in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, MMA, and Muay Thai. Coach Anthony Misitano is an adults coach and competitor who received his Black Belt in 2025 and has competed in prominent tournaments across the country, with accolades including 2018 IBJJF Worlds, multiple IBJJF NoGi Pans and Nationals titles from 2018–2022, 2020 IBJJF San Jose Open, 2023 IBJJF Internationals, 2024 IBJJF San Diego NoGi Open Absolute, and 2024 IBJJF Nationals NoGi. Coach Darby Faulkner is a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Black Belt with over 20 years of martial arts experience, extensive MMA experience, and serves as the Muay Thai instructor.

The program’s stated mission is to provide a safe and supportive environment where students can learn the art of Jiu Jitsu while improving their physical fitness, mental focus, and overall well-being, based on the belief that martial arts training is a powerful tool for personal growth and self-improvement and a commitment to helping students achieve their goals. One adult student, Andrea Dennis, reports starting the adult beginners jiu jitsu/self defense class with no martial arts experience and shares that after six weeks she has learned a lot and enjoys every class. For Gi classes, students are asked to wear a Kimono, and for NoGi classes, a rashguard, grappling shorts without zippers or pockets, and spats.
