Founded in 1999, Active Learning is led by Executive Director Hiba Shublak and Program Manager Arlette Rodriguez. Its mission is to foster emotional and physical wellbeing by inspiring children and their caregivers through educational, engaging and impactful arts enrichment and after school programs. The organization has partnered with school districts and community-based organizations throughout California to implement in and after school programs, staffing, arts enrichment, education, health and happiness. Active Learning has received awards for programs in expanded learning, performing arts and community service, including recognition from the CA Legislature Assembly, SAUSD Expanded Learning, United Way, and The National President’s Council (PCFSN). The program is described by a principal as “an irreplaceable resource” with staff who are “highly talented, dependable, and passionate about making a difference,” and a parent notes that “Active Learning teachers show a great level of involvement and caring.” Students report learning new things in dance and DJing classes and feeling most like themselves on stage. The program is trusted by California school districts, offers educator-driven and student-focused in-school and after-school programs, and states that its goal is to give students of all ages, backgrounds and skill levels the chance to learn, develop self-confidence and find their passion through arts education.
