Pateadores Soccer Club states that its mission is to be a well-organized, forward thinking, and networked club dedicated to the comprehensive development of boys and girls throughout all levels of programming, with a primary focus on growth on and off the field, character development, academic success, and soccer excellence. The mission statement notes an emphasis on maturity, self-confidence, personal responsibility, discipline, respect, teamwork, and a true player pathway to the highest levels in the game, supported by coaching, facilities, and competitive competitions. The club states that success is not solely measured by wins and losses, but by the positive impact on players’ lives, and that it aims to produce exceptional soccer players and outstanding young men and women with tools, values, and resilience to excel in all areas of life.
The club’s history notes that its colors have been blue and yellow since its inception in 1987, that the crest was adopted in 1989, and that a black swan was added to the crest in 1995 to symbolize a unique style of play described as aggressive, territorial, and graceful. The swan’s segments represent the four original founding teams in the club: U19, U17, U16, and U15, and the initials RMO at the bottom of the original crest are a tribute to Robert M. O'Leary, the original Director and Head Coach of the Pateadores Soccer Club. The current crest keeps the original design with seven added stars: one yellow star representing the 2011 United States Soccer Development Academy Championship, three blue stars representing three Cal South National Championships, and three white stars representing three US Club National Championships. The club notes that the word “Pateadores” is a Spanish slang term meaning “kickers.”
Leadership history includes Robert M. O'Leary as the original Director and Head Coach of the Pateadores Soccer Club, David Barry as club President in a volunteer role until 2018 after starting as a manager of his son’s teams in 1998, Mike Stauber as Tournament Director, and Ben Forey as Irvine Boys Chapter Director and Co-Director of Pats Cup tournaments, with Ben involved with Pateadores since 2009. The club notes that David Barry passed away in November 2020 and Ben Forey passed away in May 2023.
The club describes itself as a leader in player development and effectiveness and as a leading edge organization on developing individuals for the future, and states that Pateadores players will find a fun, challenging, nurturing environment to enjoy the game and the opportunity to become the best player they can. It describes its heritage of preparing players for college, professional, and international soccer as unmatched. The Elite Clubs National League (ECNL) is described by the club as a highly esteemed and nationally recognized elite soccer platform in the United States, and the Girls ECNL is described as among the very best competitive platforms for development and exposure, with local, regional, and national events and Girls ECNL teams described as the most competitive in their age group at the club. The Boys and Girls ECNL Regional Leagues are described as expanding the quality and standards of ECNL to more teams in the club, with similar opportunities for elite training, competition, and exposure.
Discovery/NPL is described as the top division in the Southern California Soccer League (SOCAL), with spring and fall seasons, college showcases, promotion and relegation from the Champions Division, and all Discovery/NPL teams playing in State Cup. The Southern California Soccer League is described as the premier club competition in Southern California, with teams arranged by competitiveness into flights and participating in competitions sanctioned by US Club Soccer. Pats Prep is described as a junior academy league where the youngest Pats learn self-confidence and cognitive social skills with high energy play and minimal interruption, and it is coached by Pateadores club coaches, with each chapter having its own program tailored to its area. The club also notes that in Southern California, its program offers what it considers the best resources, coaching staff, and training facilities. Pateadores organizes and supports Pats Cup tournaments and a Pats Jr Cup tournament as part of its community involvement.
