About

VU Summer Music Camp includes daily ensemble rehearsals in choir, concert band, and string orchestra. Campers take part in workshops covering instrumental techniques, music theory, and composition. Evening activities include Movie Night on the Lawn, a Camp Carnival, and “A Night With the Pros,” a concert from professional musicians, and the camp ends with a series of ensemble performances showcasing the students’ work.

• Ages: 14–18 years old
• Schedule: Day camp running from 9am–9pm each day
• Price: Cost: TBD

VU Summer Music Camp is hosted by Vanguard University and is open to students who will be in 9th–12th grades as of Fall 2024. Registration for VU Summer Music Camp 2025 will open in the fall, and each participant chooses one primary instrument and ensemble. Students interested in a smaller honors chamber ensemble on a second instrument can indicate this on the registration form, and each camper must submit a placement video instead of an audition. Placement video requirements include playing one song of the student’s choice and two major scales of their choice, recorded in real time with no editing or cutting between start and finish, with a submission deadline of April 15th.

Included in the cost of camp are lunch and dinner for the first three days of camp, a VU Summer Music Camp t-shirt, all instruction and materials, and all listed fun events. Students must provide their own breakfast each day and all meals on the final performance day of camp, and each student is responsible for their own overnight accommodations and arranging transportation to and from camp each day. Lunch and dinner are provided on campus by Bon Appétit, the on-campus catering company, and campers list dietary restrictions and food allergies on their registration form so kitchen staff can prepare alternative meals. Check-in takes place outside of the Seymour Sanctuary, and recommended nearby hotels include the Ayres Hotel Costa Mesa and the Crowne Plaza Hotel Costa Mesa, both within a 10-minute drive of the campus.

VU Summer Music Camp faculty instructors are described as accomplished and renowned musicians. Vanguard University was founded in 1920, and Dr. Michael J.
