About
Fred Endert Municipal Pool Starfish Swim Lessons offers group swim lessons, individual swim lessons, StarBabies swim lessons, StarTots swim lessons, Pre-Swim School swim lessons, Starfish Swim School, and Starfish Stroke School. In Pre-Swim School and Starfish Swim School, students work toward development of five core swimming competencies and receive color stage awards for each achievement. Starfish Stroke School students refine freestyle at the White Level and learn stroke technique for backstroke at the Red Level, butterfly at the Yellow Level, and breaststroke at the Blue Level.
• Ages: 6 months–17 years old
• Schedule: StarBabies/StarTots for ages 6 months–3 years are offered Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:35–5:05 PM in multiple three-week Winter and Spring sessions.
• Price: Individual lessons per lesson: 55-minute sessions (1 student $35.00, 2 students $45.00) and 25-minute sessions (1 student $20.00, 2 students $35.00); child/youth group lessons: $6.50 drop-in StarBabies/Tots 6 months–3 years (no preregistration required, class limit 6 parent–child pairs), $35.00 StarBabies/Tots 6 months–3 years, $48.00 Pre-school 4–6 years, $45.00 Youth 6–17 years.
The purpose of StarBabies and StarTots for ages 6 months to 3 1/2 years is to foster in very young children a high comfort level in the water while at the same time training parents and caregivers in water safety and drowning prevention. Parents are only required for StarBabies and StarTots, and the StarBabies/Tots drop-in class has a class limit of 6 parent–child pairs. Pre-Swim School for ages 3 1/2–6 1/2 uses animal stages (Jellyfish, Otter, Porpoise) to divide students into broad ability groups, and Pre-Swim School Otters now have to tread water to move to Porpoise.
All age groups consist of five different colored levels: White, Red, Yellow, Blue, and Green, with White and Red as beginner stage levels and Green as the endurance stage of every level. Learning is self-paced but challenging in Pre-Swim School and Starfish Swim School. Fifty-five minute individual lesson sessions are available only for swimmers who are ages 6 1/2 and older and in Swim School Blue/Green or Stroke School.
Moving forward with lessons, registration dates for each class will be staggered to take place on different days, and participants who complete a session must wait one round of group lessons to enroll again. Free group swim lessons are sponsored by the Del Norte Healthcare District, and free swimming lessons are offered to group lessons only. Relief Supervisor William Morris is listed as a contact for the program.
