AbilityFirst states that its mission is to support people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and their families, by focusing on capabilities and expanding possibilities, and to create a welcoming environment where participants feel they belong and are valued, with programs tailored to individual interests and needs from childhood to adulthood. Adult and transitional campers choose their daily activities, tablemates, and participation level, while children’s sessions follow a set program and move with their cabin groups. As campers take part in the Camp Paivika experience, families and caregivers can take a break from providing 24/7 care, with the program stating that campers are safe, cared for, and having fun.
