A part of Culver City since 1972, AYSO Region 19 Youth Soccer states that its mission is providing world class youth soccer programs that enrich children's lives. The mission emphasizes a child-first approach, with every decision, rule, and program based on “what's good for kids,” and states that everybody likes to win, but developing successful players and people is fundamental in AYSO. The mission also states that the program strives to create a positive environment based on mutual respect rather than a win-at-all-costs attitude, and that it is designed to instill good sportsmanship in every facet of AYSO. It further states that all players should be able to develop their soccer skills and knowledge to the best of their abilities, both individually and as members of a team, in order to maximize their enjoyment of the game, and that AYSO wants all players, coaches, families, and volunteers to have fun.
AYSO Region 19 follows AYSO's Six Philosophies: Everyone Plays®, Balanced Teams, Open Registration, Positive Coaching, Good Sportsmanship, and Player Development. Under the Everyone Plays® philosophy, every player on every team must play at least 50 percent of every game. Under Balanced Teams, new teams are formed each year to be as evenly balanced as possible. Under Open Registration, the program is open to all children who want to register and play soccer, with no elimination tryouts and nobody cut from participation. AYSO requires coaches to create a positive experience for every boy and girl. The program also uses the Kids Zone program, which encourages positive language, sportsmanship, and a great experience for every player, and includes a Kids Zone Pledge with guidelines for parents and spectators.
The region lists a leadership team that includes Regional Commissioner Eddie Zetina and Asst. Regional Commissioner Laura Love. Other listed roles include Regional Registrar Greg Stone; Asst. RC / RCVPA Vonda Stone; Regional Referee Administrator Paul Mathews; Regional Coach Administrators Humberto Benitez and Mario Gonzalez; Regional Treasurer Barry Moser; Regional Safety Director Arley Partida; Quartermaster (Uniforms) Laura Love; Game Scheduler Dave Wulf; and Website contact Anthony Robinson. The region also lists multiple Boys and Girls Commissioners by age group, including commissioners for Playground/4U, 5U, 6U, 7U/8U, 10U, 12U, 14U, and 16U/19U divisions, as well as an EXTRA / SCEDSL Commissioner and an AYSO ALLIANCE Regional Alliance Coordinator role.
AYSO, the national organization associated with the region, notes several partnerships, including a partnership with Chicago Public Schools to enhance youth sports programming, a partnership with the US Center for Mental Health & Sport focused on player and volunteer wellness, and a partnership with Northland Sports Alliance expanding soccer programming in Kansas City. It also notes that the City of Lancaster hosted the AYSO National Open Cup 2017. AYSO leadership recognition includes the Stack Leadership Award given to Michael Karon, President of AYSO, for his impact in the world of sports volunteering.
