Say N' Play Summer Camp

About
Say N’ Play Summer Camp is an early summer camp program focused on speech and language development. Camp days include intense speech and language stimulation for 6 hours per day, with individual or small group speech therapy three times per week for 30 minutes. Children take part in weekly themes, field trips, and community outings as part of the camp schedule.
• Ages: 3–14 years old
• Schedule: 2025 program starts in June with two 3-week sessions (Session 1: June 13–July 3; Session 2: July 7–July 25)
Say N’ Play Summer Camp is an intense speech-language-based program led exclusively by licensed speech-language pathologists (SLPs). Staff-to-child ratios are 1:4, 1:2, or 1:1, depending on each child’s needs as determined by the team. The ideal participant is 3–14 years of age with speech and language delays, autism spectrum disorder (ASD), or other developmental delays that result in communication deficits and nonaggressive or minimal self-injurious behaviors. The program includes individual speech therapy, small group speech therapy, and activities that promote socialization and friendship skills. Exemplary college and high school student volunteers, called “Speech Buddies,” serve as an extra pair of eyes and hands and are not included in the staff-to-child ratio.
The staff is racially and linguistically diverse and provides services in English, Spanish, Japanese, Farsi, Malayalam, Hindi, and Sign Language. International students travel to attend the camp from Dubai, Bali, Mexico, and Japan.
Say N’ Play Summer Camp began welcoming families in 1999, and it is part of L.A. Speech and Language Therapy Center, which was established in 1979. The program is led by Pamela Wiley, Ph.D., who is the President of the Los Angeles Speech and Language Therapy Center, Inc. and the founder of The Wiley Center for Speech and Language Development. Pamela Wiley, Ph.D., is a fellow of the American Speech and Language Hearing Association and in 2020 was awarded Honors of her association. The program’s mission states that its programs and specialized support can have a dramatic impact on the quality of life and independence for children and adults with special needs, that its centers embrace all cultures, and that it affirms effective communication as a human right.
