About

Steve & Kate's Camp offers a summer day camp and holiday camp where campers choose their own activities and plan their own days. Campers spend their time designing, building, creating, playing, eating, and clowning on their own schedule. The camp also offers Steve & Kate’s Virtual Camp.

• Ages: 4–13 years old
• Schedule: Long camp hours, 8am–6pm, all included in the camp fee

Steve & Kate's Camp’s summer program is designed for children entering PreK through 7th grade, and the camp generally accepts children aged 4 to 13 years old. All campers must be 4 years old by their first day of camp, except in specified states where campers must be 5 years old. The camp age limit is 13, but if a camper turns 14 while attending summer camp, they may finish out the summer. Holiday camps are offered for kids ages 4–12, and mentorship programs are available for children aged 14 and 15, with availability varying by location. All campers must be fully toilet trained, able to speak up for their needs, and able to get through the camp day without a nap.

Families can buy any number of day passes, attend camp any time, and receive automatic full refunds for any unused purchased Day Passes at summer’s end, with no processing fees for refunds. There is also an option to buy a Summer Pass for unlimited use, and if a Summer Pass is underused, the difference versus the daily rate is automatically refunded. Parents can buy any number of days to use whenever and wherever they would like throughout the summer, and can drop off and pick up whenever they want within camp hours. All-inclusive rates include all camp hours from 8am to 6pm, snacks and lunch, and any activities that interest the child. Tasty meals and snacks are included in the camp fee.

Steve & Kate's Camp operates at more than 90 locations, described as more than 70 “islands of freedom” from Manhattan to Manhattan Beach. The organization is staffed with people who share a talent for connecting with kids, and the founders’ vision is carried out through VPs Kevin and Mike. Kevin is a former Steve & Kate’s camper who became an operations leader, and Mike started as a counselor at Steve & Kate’s in 1998 and has been with the organization ever since. The camp traces its origins to 1980 in Mill Valley, California, when Steve and Kate started the program.

The camp’s mission states that when kids are empowered to make their own choices and be their own bosses, they discover new reserves of confidence, resiliency, and creativity. According to Andrew Stanton, Director of WALL-E, Finding Nemo, and Finding Dory, “The children that attend Steve & Kate's blossom and discover a freedom of identity that, in a way, no other institution I've experienced has ever managed.” Apple’s Hot News wrote, “If kids ruled the world, it might look something like Steve and Kate’s Camp.” Variety magazine noted that many children of people working at Pixar and Industrial Light & Magic attend, and The Washington Post described the camp as combining a traditional camp experience with modern, tech-focused approaches. The Chicago Tribune wrote that “Working parents’ worries dissipate as they contemplate Steve & Kate’s model.”
