About
Musical Theatre Competitions of America is a musical theatre festival that includes group adjudications in Musical Production, Medley, and Showtune categories, as well as solo, duet, monologue, Musical Theatre Dance, Set Design, Makeup and Hair Design, and Costume Design adjudications. The program features an open call audition with audition tips, a high-energy combo that students learn, and a live audition in front of industry professionals. Participants also take part in performance or design workshops with professional adjudicators, a performance workshop with the MTCA Creative Team, and a finale performance with Direct from Broadway guest artists.
The program includes masterclasses focused on voice, dance, acting, and audition technique, along with sessions on preparing and submitting self-tape auditions. Students can attend a Broadway panel Q&A and a Broadway talkback Q&A with featured guest stars, as well as a college panel and fair that is described as The Next Step and a permanent part of The MTCA Experience. The event also offers Technical Theatre Olympics with tech-based games that are open to every student, a dance party, a directors mixer, and an awards ceremony with awards presented in every category and age division, plus several categories for the Technical Theatre Olympics.
The adjudication team includes theatre professionals, college professors, industry insiders, and casting directors. MTCA has more than 20 years of experience and is described as the creative force behind two industry-leading events: the MTCA Musical Theatre Festival and the MTC Triple Threat Competition. MTCA is described as the Nation's Most Extensive Educational Musical Theater Festival and as a platform where performance-driven talents can thrive and be recognized, with an immediate, uplifting post-performance feedback session for each participant. The MTC Triple Threat Competition allows performers to compete in singing, acting, and dancing in one, two, or all three disciplines and provides live feedback from expert adjudicators. Sponsors and partners are mentioned as part of MTCA’s community involvement.
