About

EPA Razorhawks Rugby is a youth rugby program where kids play and learn the sport of rugby. The program is part of the EPA Peninsula Rugby Football Club, also known as EPA Razorhawks, and focuses on rugby activities for young players.

• Ages: 5–18 years old

The club states that it is dedicated to bringing the excitement, fun, and teamwork of rugby to kids aged 5–18 in a safe, friendly, and nurturing environment. It operates as a comprehensive K–12 rugby program representing East Palo Alto and nearby communities. The program uses experienced coaches who have played rugby at the national and international level and have coached athletes from kindergarten through university. Coaches include Viliami "Pila" Pongi and Onesi "Nesi" Havea.

The Peninsula Youth Rugby Football Club was established in 1981 as a nonprofit and originally played as the Seahawks. In 2015, it merged with the East Palo Alto Razorbacks Youth Rugby program, and in the fall of 2021 it merged with the high-school Menlo-Atherton Rugby Club to establish the EPA Peninsula Rugby Football Club, known as the EPA Razorhawks, with a name styling change at that time to make the “H” lowercase. East Palo Alto has long been known as a town with deep rugby roots, and its men’s club, including coaches Viliami "Pila" Pongi and Onesi "Nesi" Havea, won a national championship in 2009. Local players such as Folau Niua and Jack Hallaio have represented the United States in international competition. The program is part of a vibrant community that includes both families who are already familiar with rugby and families who are new to the sport, and it offers a comprehensive developmental program that takes players from their first catch and pass to confident and elegant gameplay.
