Girls to Women is dedicated to supporting girls as they design their futures for successful womanhood. It is the only girl-centered youth development program in the East of Bayshore community and focuses on positive, culturally-reflective female role models. The organization provides year-round programming for 75 low-income girls and young women ages 6 to 25, including elementary and early middle school-age girls and their families in East Palo Alto and Menlo Park. Girls to Women is a registered tax-exempt public benefit nonprofit organization. Girls to Women partners with Mid-Peninsula families, local youth development agencies, and local schools, and leverages community resources such as facilities, personnel, and infrastructure. Families in San Mateo County’s “East of Bayshore (East Palo Alto and Menlo Park’s Belle Haven neighborhood)” community depend on Girls to Women for year-round programming. The Annual Margaret Wright Wellness 5K Run/Walk involves enthusiastic young people, Olympic athletes, local businesses, and San Francisco Bay open-space as a community-building event. One testimonial shared with the program is, “I am an example of what is possible when girls from the very beginning of their lives are loved and nurtured by people around them” – Michelle Obama.
