EPA Peninsula Rugby Football Club, also known as EPA Razorhawks, is dedicated to bringing the excitement, fun, and teamwork of rugby to kids aged 5–18 in a safe, friendly, and nurturing environment. The club’s leadership team includes coaches Viliami “Pila” Pongi and Onesi “Nesi” Havea, who are part of East Palo Alto’s men’s club that won a national championship in 2009. The coaches are experienced and have played rugby at the national and international level and have coached athletes from kindergarten through university. The program is part of a vibrant community that includes both families who already love rugby and families who are new to the sport, and it anchors a thriving mid-Peninsula rugby community.
The Peninsula Youth Rugby Football Club was established in 1981 as a nonprofit. The club played as the Seahawks until a 2015 merger with the East Palo Alto Razorbacks Youth Rugby program, and in the fall of 2021 it merged with the high-school Menlo-Atherton Rugby Club to establish the EPA Peninsula Rugby Football Club, known as the EPA Razorhawks. East Palo Alto has long been known as a town with deep rugby roots, and local players like Folau Niua and Jack Hallaio have represented the United States in international competition.
