ActiveSGV Youth Bicycle Education and Outdoor Programs focuses on cycling and teaching safe cycling skills. The program uses a youth-focused bicycle cooperative that offers low or no cost recycled bikes and access to professional tools and expertise. It also uses a traffic garden for teaching safe cycling skills.

ActiveSGV operates San Gabriel Valley’s first Bicycle Education Center, community bike park, and Traffic Garden. The program is part of SGV’s first “bicycle campus,” which includes the region’s first bicycle skills park and a youth-focused bicycle cooperative. ActiveSGV’s mission is to support a more sustainable, equitable, and livable San Gabriel Valley. Since 2010, ActiveSGV’s staff, board members, volunteers, and supporters have dedicated thousands of hours to fostering civic engagement in communities across the San Gabriel Valley to effect policy, program, and environmental change. ActiveSGV is a non-profit public charity exempt from federal income tax under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
The program’s leadership and staff team includes roles such as Executive Director David Diaz, Deputy Director Wesley Reutimann, Program Director Diane Velez, and Education Coordinator Yasser Martinez, along with multiple program managers, associates, outreach staff, interns, and board members. ActiveSGV worked with El Monte City School District to develop SGV’s first “bicycle campus” and partnered with Amigos de los Rios on an urban forestry grant. ActiveSGV is part of the GREEN SGV Collaborative led by Day One in partnership with Sustainable Claremont, TreePeople, GRID Alternatives, and the Council for Watershed Health, and operates GoSGV in partnership with the San Gabriel Valley Council of Governments. The San Gabriel Valley Regional Greenway Network vision has been formally endorsed by the San Gabriel Valley Council of Governments and other community partners. A testimonial from The Trust for Public Land describes ActiveSGV as an important partner in efforts to build more parks in El Monte and notes that ActiveSGV has organized residents to speak about their needs and vision for their community.
